Haiti Earthquake Update ,January 13th, 2010

*There are hundreds feared dead, after the a shocking earthquake hit the impoverished island of Haiti.

*There has been destruction of buildings, including hospitals, hotels, the World Bank even the presidential palace, in the largest quake in 200 years.

*The 7.1 Richter scale quake, took only 60 seconds to destroy large parts of Port-au-Prince the capital of Haiti, which is only 10 miles from the epicentre of the tremor.

*The earthquake was deemed as a “catastrophe” and also a “major disaster” by officials as victims who are buried in the rubble, are being searched for by rescue workers.

*Pictures from news vision and also people in the area, show bloodied bodies lying half buried in the rubble in the streets, while school children stagger to get help.

*While more than 30 aftershocks have since hit the island, buildings burned and power lines were torn down, from the quakes.

*A large amount of personnel from the UN’s Haiti peacekeeping mission which has more than 9,000 staff, were still unaccounted for, after it’s headquarters were seriously damaged.

*Now that darkness has hit, not only making it hard for rescue efforts, but also har to find the victims still trapped under debris, and who’s screams can be heard.

*In the public square, thousands gather, singing hymns and weeping, while many injured, plead for doctors, while sitting in the street.
